Nurturing Learners, Building Foundations

When your child is in these early grades, you know your child is loved by our teachers. Classrooms are intentionally designed to nurture young learners through cozy reading spots, 灵活的座位选择, and a focus on exploration. Students learn how to learn, engage confidently with teachers and peers, and build a strong foundation in literacy, 数学, 社会性技能, 批判性思维.

Our mixed age-group setting in these grades is the foundation for cultivating thinkers, 领导人, 解决问题的人. Students build skills and explore concepts through student-led inquiry, 现实世界的挑战, and a connection to the community. We believe that social-emotional learning and character development should be built alongside foundational understandings of core academic concepts. We prepare children to be empathetic stewards for an environmentally conscious world with profound love and respect for nature and their wider community.

Maumee Valley teachers understand that no two minds learn in the same way. Class sizes are intentionally small so that teachers have time to develop a deep understanding of each child's needs and learning style.

Inquiry-based learning is an approach to learning that emphasizes the student’s role in the learning process. Rather than the teacher telling students what they need to know, students are encouraged to explore the material, 问问题, 分享想法.

Our goal is to tap into children’s sense of wonder about nature while teaching values and basic natural science principles in the field. In addition to bringing the outdoors into their classroom, the PreK/JK curriculum immerses children in nature for two and a half hours each day.

We spend a large amount of time focusing on the children’s individual identity and their classroom community.
